A Writer’s Blessings

Posted by on March 2, 2013

I did a book signing at a book fair and chili bash the other night at the school where I teach.  I have told my students that I’ve published a book. and several staff members and a few parents have already bought Mountain Time and read it. It never stops humbling me when someone tells me they read my novel and liked it.  The day after the event, during our silent reading time, one of my fifth grade boys pulled out Mountain Time and started reading. When he saw me notice, he told me he’d started it already and it was “a good book”.  High praise indeed from an 11 year old who’d probably rather be playing basketball.   It was really a cool moment for me – seeing my book, my story in the hands of a student.  It was also a scary moment, and one filled with the weight of responsibility.  I want to always write things that entertain and uplift, challenge and make you think.
